Small class size is the key to being able to meet each student's needs in your classroom. Finding out how each student learns best, tailoring a program that would best suit them, and giving them the time needed to master one thing before moving on to the next is crucial. Everyone wants to succeed, be heard, and to feel good about themselves. Small class size makes it a lot easier to be able to attain those goals.- Lynn Costello Ms. Childress holds bachelor degrees in Sociology & Psychology from Cal State Fullerton, and California Elemetary and Secondary Teaching Credentials.
I teach to the child's learning style, and I give each child time to develop skills according to their needs, not according to my timetable. Over the years I have learned that, when children are allowed to learn at their own pace, they almost always end up exceeding my expectations, and their confidence in their own abilities soars. Some of my key lessons: Take personal responsibility for your actions; even adults make mistakes; it's good to laugh a lot. Korla Childress Senora Juliana holds her B.A. in Art History from CSUF, a B.A. from Mexico City College, and a M.A. from CSUF in Cultural Anthropology. Before joining Berkeley School in 1994, Senora Juliana lived and worked in Venezuela, Columbia and Mexico for over 20 years where she learned Spanish by total immersion.
To live is to continually learn. Teaching to me means to plant the seeds of cultural curiosity, to help children apply that curiosity to life, and to help them discover the joy and wisdom that can be derived from it. Julie Ann Muzzall Mrs. Ayeh obtained her B.A. in Dance and History and her M.F.A. in Dance Education from U.C. Irvine. She has worked as a teacher since 1974. Her resume includes professional assignments as choreographer, artistic director and dance concert instructor for children and adults. Additionally, Mrs. Ayeh has studied and taught in goth Ghana and Malawi.
The Art of dance is movement which is stylized to express or portray a part of history, nature, or social values. These are incorporated into my theory of teaching, together with students' expressions of creative movement. Kathy Ayeh She holds B.A. degrees in Literature and Theater from Antioch College, and a M.F.A. in Theatrical Design from Cal State Fullerton. She is a working artist and designer, and is an instructor at Fullerton and Cypress Colleges.
Children are creative and artistic by nature. My job is to provide them with the training and tools to apply those gifts in artistic expression. The best thing about a piece of paper is that it has two sides. Sometimes you just need to start again, and that's O.K. It is important that students learn to appreciate other artists--and the artists within themselves. Barbara Braden-Meyer Miss Lisa holds an A.A. from Irvine College in Physical Education and has Health & Fitness Certification. Miss Lisa joined Berkeley School in 1990 and sets an excellent example for the children by being in top shape. In addition to teaching P.E. to all grade levels, Miss Lisa offers an on-site fitness class to students following regular school hours.
I strive to make each child aware of how good it feels to live a fit life style. I want them to enjoy physical activity, and to appreciate that sportsmanship, teamwork, and effort are of the utmost importance in sports and in life. Lisa Willard Mr. Nason holds a B.S. in Biology, a B.S. in Zoology both from Cal Poly Pomona, and a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Life Science. Doug has taught the love of science to students since 1988.
Teaching should inspire the student to want to know more. Science is not about a big collection of names, facts and numbers, but a way of discovering the natural world. I always try to make learning fun; I'm always trying to find new ways of introducing concepts that will make that light bulb go on, so that those concepts will stick with them forever. Doug Nason In addition to owning her own opera company, Mrs. Kikkert holds a B.A. in Piano Performance from Wellesley College and a M.A. in Vocal Performance from CSULB. Mrs. Kikkert teaches all Berkeley School students music and offers on-site private piano and voice lessons after school hours.
I want each student at Berkeley School to have an understanding and an appreciation of music fundamentals. Wendy Kikkert Mr. Sam holds both B.A. & M.A. degrees in Physical Science from Washington University and California Elementary, Secondary & Community College Teaching Credentials. Bringing over 32 years of teaching experience from elementary to college levels, Mr. Sam joined Berkeley School in 2000.
I teach students according to each child's unique needs. I want the children to know that "computer stuff" is something that is "do-able" (not to be afraid of) and worth investigating. Sam Standring
